Wijnne Barends Logistics expands extensively
The in Delfzijl established logistics service provider, Wijnne Barends Logistics, has recently more than doubled its storage and handling capacity in the port of Eemshaven. The extension encompasses the purchase of 2 areas, a total of 4.7 hectares, situated directly adjacent the existing terminal of Wijnne Barends Logistics in the Beatrixhaven. The first area is around 2.7 hectare located at the Julianahaven which was used for storage and handling of building materials for rail-, water- and road construction by the Holemans Group. The second area is 2.0 hectare of new terrain located at the Beatrixhaven, adjacent the current location.
The enlagement gives Wijnne Barends Logistics more scope to better serve customers, especially offshore (wind) related ones. To prevent dangerous situations like loads being transported between the two areas and also to comply with the International Code for the security of ships and port facilities (ISPS), the Municipal Council of Eemsmond now has granted permission to Groningen Seaports to close the part of the road (Westlob), which separates both areas, making it no longer generally accessible.

Wijnne Barends Logistics is active in the Eemshaven since 2008 with storage and handling of bulk- and project cargo. In cooperation with shipping company Spliethoff from Amsterdam a weekly service between the port of Eemshaven (container) and the East coast of the United States was already carried out for over 5 years for which the Holemans site was already partly rented.
Wijnne Barends Logistics operates a total of 4 locations in Delfzijl and the Eemshaven and is part of the Amsterdam-based Spliethoff Group which plays a prominent role in the global transport of project-, heavy- and general cargo and ro-ro transport and the transport of yachts. The group manages a modern fleet of more than 100 vessels, including heavy cargo, ro-ro and semi-submersible vessels with a carrying capacity of 3,000 to 23,000 tons, under the Dutch flag. The group consists of Spliethoff’s Bevrachtingkantoor, Biglift Shipping, Sevenstar Yacht Transport, Transfennica, Bore and Wijnn Barends.
